When I'm illustrating horses I'm constantly reminded that these are majestic animals with powerful bodies and minds of their own. We've tamed and schooled them for riding, driving and work on the farm but they still have wild spirits, some more hidden than others!

Different breeds have different characters and muscle shapes, their hair comes in a multitude of colours and can be tightly clipped, braided or flowing as a long tail or mane.

Each owner knows their horse extremely well so I like to try to capture some of the spirit as well as the likeness
