Wildlife

The Compelling Subject

Illustrating animals in the wild comprises of three elements, the animal, the environment and their purpose in that environment.

In this award winning illustration of a Timber Wolf in the winter you can see the Wolf's thick winter coat, the only protection it has against the harsh winter weather. Surrounding it the illustration includes the snow and fir trees of the arctic tundra where the Wolf lives.

Far from being just a picture of a Wolf in the snow, in her eyes you can see the intent to hunt and catch food for her young. This is her purpose for being here.

This illustration was created using pastel pencils.
